Dear Alan Keyes:
Aug. 9th, 2004 06:07 amHey, remember when you were criticizing Hilary Clinton a couple of years back, and you said, "I deeply resent the destruction of federalism represented by Hillary Clinton's willingness to go into a state she doesn't even live in and pretend to represent people there, so I certainly wouldn't imitate it?"
Yeah, that was funny.
Good luck in Illinois. Try to remember that their football team is The Bears, not the Ravens.

Yes, they're strange. But it's just the top half of the state.
Oh, and watch out for the lake effect...
i call it 'pop' like god intended it!

Date: 2004-08-09 06:27 am (UTC)Illinois is a solid Democratic stronghold and even most of the Republicans that win office there are pretty moderate, such as their last governor, who is the only Republican I've ever voted for.

Date: 2004-08-09 06:48 am (UTC)Keyes, on the other hand, is being asked specifically to come into a Democratic state and get his ass handed to him, but depending on how good he campaigns, he may get to select the size of the platter. And, to read some of the interviews he had up until he elected to accept the invite, he had some serious issues with taking the opportunity. So, he STILL has a problem with non-residents in representative roles, but apparently the danger he sees in Obama outweighs.
I think it has the potential to produce some REALLY interesting debate, as they'll have a left-liberal and a right-conservative up on the podium for the first time in a few years. I don't think the outcome will change, but we'll get to see both sides showcase their differences, such as they are.

The Senate seat is a secondary gain here.

Date: 2004-08-09 01:19 pm (UTC)Although I know the anomaly can be fixed, as I got a native Chicago girl to start saying soda and was working on her to end sentences with complete phrases and not just prepositions...
Drat!!!
