Oh, and in Chicago, "You wanna come with" is a complete sentence, and they call soda "pop" up there.

I hope somebody throws that back in his face. I'm slightly afraid Barack is too noble to campaign like that. I'm also not confident the voters will vote for the one who's clearly the better candidate. But I guess we'll see.

Morning Sedition's Mark Riley just said Keyes is far to the right of George W. Bush. I hope that means people will see that he's a freak and shouldn't hold office anywhere. I'm counting on people being that smart.

That's very true. He's right out there with Steve Forbes and most of the rest of the Republicans who ran against Bush in 2000 except for John McCain and Elizabeth Dole who were reasonably sane.

Illinois is a solid Democratic stronghold and even most of the Republicans that win office there are pretty moderate, such as their last governor, who is the only Republican I've ever voted for.

Not quite the same -- Hillary WENT to NewYork, where there was already a Democrat candidate, and pushed her way in, then through to a victory. She was not invited in to salvage a horribly bad situation.

Keyes, on the other hand, is being asked specifically to come into a Democratic state and get his ass handed to him, but depending on how good he campaigns, he may get to select the size of the platter. And, to read some of the interviews he had up until he elected to accept the invite, he had some serious issues with taking the opportunity. So, he STILL has a problem with non-residents in representative roles, but apparently the danger he sees in Obama outweighs.

I think it has the potential to produce some REALLY interesting debate, as they'll have a left-liberal and a right-conservative up on the podium for the first time in a few years. I don't think the outcome will change, but we'll get to see both sides showcase their differences, such as they are.

What will happen is that Keyes running will end up portraying Barack as an extreme left liberal and not the moderate he portraied himself during the DNC.

Thus negating one of the Democrats rising stars.

The Senate seat is a secondary gain here.

I remember watching an Alan Keyes speech on TV once, years ago when he was running for President. I can't cite this, unfortunately, because it was years ago and I don't remember which network was running the speech, even - but he said that single motherhood was bad for children and bad for the country and he thought single mothers should be forced! to marry.

Even though I'm childfree and all and children are probably better off, at least from a financial support standpoint, with two parents - the guy is a freakin' psycho.

Drat!!! I guess my application to run for the Republican seat there got turned down. And all I said was: "Hi... my name is Joseph Mason. Since no one wants to run against that Obama guy, please allow me to run for your party. I have nothing to lose when he kicks my ass in the election and will be very happy just to get my face in the papers when 3% of the people vote for me! Sincerly... Joseph Mason."
