Sunday morning links
Aug. 22nd, 2004 11:09 amSo far, so sleepy. I've got a laptop, coffee, the New York Times, and two student workers sleeping on couched because we haven't had a call yet.
It won't last, but as long as it does, have some links and random thoughts.
Start with the NYT article on papers cutting comic strips. Of course, the Old Gray Lady has never exactly been a supporter of comics, so I find the article a little ironic. But it's a depressing sign of the state of the industry, although I remember Watterson and Breathed railing against the shrinking comics page (both size and number of strips) back in the '80s.
The Scream was stolen again. But it's a different Munch Scream than the one stolen ten years ago. Madonna was also stolen, but again, it's not the better known one who strips on stage and kisses former teen pop stars. Confused? You won't be, when you read this week's episode of Art!
Michael Jackson would appreciate it if you'd stop calling him "whacko." Anyone else feeling like quoting Dr. Hibbert at him?
*gasp* Swift Boat Veterans who have actually served with Kerry support him! Who'd've thunk it? In the meantime, Swift Boat Veterans For Horseshit have their man on the inside of the Bush Campaign forced to resign.
Joe Piscopo for NJ Governor. Because there needs to be a steroid-laced gov on the East Coast, too.
Anyone remember the Bat Shark Repellent scene in the '60s Batman movie? It's close to being a reality.
And finally, no links, but last night's Teen Titans? Kick-ass! And a surprisingly good JLU, considering the prominence of two of my least favorite DC characters. Having Hervey and Savage as Hawk and Dove was fucking brilliant casting.

Date: 2004-08-22 11:18 am (UTC)Titans has grown on me. I still don't really prefer the whacky anime bits, but the overall quality of story and character work has impressed me.
JLU was indeed good. The casting was amusing and I was a bit surprised that they put Hawk and Dove in the league. Most people probably have no idea who they are.
Is the PMS Wonder Woman a continuing theme? I missed Star Crossed(came yesterday on DVD), and the first two eps of the season.

Date: 2004-08-22 08:55 pm (UTC)and how did teen titans aftershocks part 2 compare to the storyline in the comics? How did the ending RE Terra compare between the two?

Date: 2004-08-23 06:10 am (UTC)Caught a bit of Stephenaopolopolis the other day talking with O'Neal (I think) from the Swift Boat Blah Blah. Some other guy on the show pointed out O'Neal was appointed by Nixon to take down Kerry back in '71. Hmmm...
