Went to the Braves/Astros game last night. Believe it or not, it was my first live playoff game ever (in spite of living in New York during the Yankees late '70s run and the Mets late '80s run, and having been in Atlanta since the curring dynasty began). It was also a blast. Good to see the Braves lose, as always (although it's hard to muster up any real hatred for Jaret Wright, who deserved better than to have Reitsma appear in relief). Good to see two of the classiest future Hall of Famers, the Killer B's, finally advance a round in the playoffs.

Quote of the night (courtesy [livejournal.com profile] jet_li_wannabe), after Furcal hit a homer: "Man, he really wants to stay out of jail."

Furcal, of course, is famous as the inventor of the Rafael Furcal Drinking Game.

It was an exciting game until Reitsma came in. Lots of energy, lots of good action on the field. Lots of powerball by both teams. Some nice defense. Some annoying between-innings crap because Braves fans couldn't possibly just want to cheer on their own or talk about the game. The usual.

As for the next round, I've got no real preference in either game. I want either of the National League teams to beat either of the American League ones. That's because the NL teams include folks like Edmunds, Bagwell, Pujols, and Biggio, and the AL teams are the Yankees and Red Sox. That said, I can't imagine the Cards not making the Series (nor would things have been any different if the Braves had won), but I'm honestly not as sure about the AL contests. The Sox are the better team in general, but the Yankees are the Yankees (and the Sox, of course, are the Sox), which means that all rules go out the window. If Pedro still meets his "daddy," I can't see them winning.

As for my Mets, hiring Minaya is wonderful. Firing the Wilpons would be better.

i just hope it's not houston vs. boston, due to the presidential campaign parallels that would be made. and if it IS houston vs. boston, i'm verymuch hoping that boston wins. i would not put it past the people of this country to see the election outcome affected, by the hype that would result from a matchup like that ...

I did not want to see Houston advance; they're dangerously hot right now and the Cards' bats were a little too quiet in the LA series. But time will tell.

And I'd dearly love to see Boston knock the Yankees off.

I am suprised that there are not Republicans out there to remind us that the Braves are orginally from Boston.

Unfortuantly we are not getting rid of the Wilpons anytime soon *sigh*
I don't see the Mets doing anything for a few years since we traded the future this year. Stupidest move had to be Ty Wiggenton. He has soooo much potential. The bullpen is not bad. It was the defensive plays that killed the Mets this year. Stick Piazza back behind homeplate and let his knees give out. Find a shortstop and a first baseman who can play those positions and I think the Mets will do better.

but that's not what I'm hoping for anyway.
I was a Red Sox/Redbirds world series, with the Sox winning.
Stupid curse.

Too funny! I'm rather fond of the B's; they seem like good guys. However, my hatred of Clemens knows no bounds. I'd love it so much if my boys went through the Yankees AND Clemens to win it all.

The Boston Herald actually had as a headline during the NLDS "Go Yanks! We want to kick your butt on the way to the Series."

I kind of think we should be careful what we wish for, though I do see how it'll feel better to beat them than the Twinkies.

...because it's baseball related: the Dodgers finally won a post season game. Yeah, they lost, yeah yeah yeah, but, they won a game. Finally.

And yeah, I'm a Dodgers fan. I know, I should just kill myself. Makes baseball season easier.

Um...ok...the Braves are originally from Boston. I actually didn't know this, but what the hell?

Mentioned because of the comment of using the Boston vs Houston thing as a political ploy or barometer

Yeah, I know. I was just answering the call for a Republican to bring it up. =)

I also managed to simultaneously prove my ignorance of baseball history. I'm talented like that.
