Making the pie

Just made my key lime pie for the work party tomorrow.

There's nothing like the feel of separating eggs by hand.

My parents have the best egg separator ever. It's a little clay head, with holes where nostrils would be.

Yeah, you guessed it.

My brother and sis-in-law found it for them, and gave it to them as part of their "thanks for coming to our wedding" basket. The day after the wedding, we bought a dozen eggs, and separated them, just for the joy of it. We'd dribble the egg white partially out...and then tip it back, watching the white shloop back into the head.

I don't think any of us have ever laughed so hard in our lives.

In other news, I have a fantastic recipe for a Key Lime Cheesecake, if you ever want it :)

I went through a binge of key-lime-pie-baking a few months ago, which ended tragically with my Mum upchucking on the living-room floor. I told her milk doesn't mix well with citrus...

I separate eggs by hand, too. I think it's the safest way to avoid breaking the yolk.
