Yes, we're in the throes of packing, making sure we haven't forgotten any of the usual last-minute things, and all the other fun stuff that happens right before the holidays. Joy! And I just got to handle a work assignment, because it looks like no one else can (or wants to).

You know, when I joked a few weeks back about someone getting me the Complete Far Side, I thought I was kidding. But we got a package from Amazon last night, and [livejournal.com profile] murnkay got it for [livejournal.com profile] shadesong and me! Truly a rocking $winterholiday gift. Just beautiful!

We also got a couple of nice cards yesterday, from [livejournal.com profile] magenta_girl (whose card came with a "save the date" announcement for her wedding! Yay! And since that date is my mom's birthday, I can't possible forget it!) and [livejournal.com profile] pbmath!

And thanks to the power of Teh Intraweb, I now know where to find good wrestling files online -- ask me if you need the link (it's supposed to be low profile), and [livejournal.com profile] lordrexfear is the reason I know! Oh, and happy birthday to him, while I'm at it!

Following up from a couple of days ago, yes, the next Harry Potter book has hit #1 at Amazon.

Heh. Anyone who really wants to know why the Randy Johnson trade fell apart should read this piece.

Speaking of humor, from the latest Onion: Psychiatrists Treating Phantom Of The Opera Viewers For Post-Melodramatic Stress Disorder. [livejournal.com profile] sweinberg is no less amusing in his review of the craptacular musical now on the big screen (and he rightly points out that Schumacher has done some great stuff, but I'm still going to make nipple suit jokes for the rest of my life). As is Ed Gonzalaz over in Slant (link ganked via [livejournal.com profile] dtaylor), who starts with Quite possibly the worst thing I’ve ever seen in my entire life, Andrew Lloyd Webber’s The Phantom of the Opera represents everything that’s wrong with much of today’s musical theater. I couldn't agree more. Amazingly, the movie scores a 39% at Rotten Tomatoes, but since one of those positive reviews is from Peter Travers at Rolling Stone (aka, the worst critic in America), take that higher-than-expected score with a grain of salt.

Chud is reporting that Marti Noxon and Ben Edlund will both be working on a show called Point Pleasant, which sounds like a supernatural soap opera. With those two involved, and with Dina Meyer as one of the stars, I'm pretty much sure to watch.

That same link also reports the new Celebrity Poker Showdown cast. Including the return of Sara Rue! Yay!

Off to finish preparations for the trip.

I saw Phantom last night. Ten minutes into the movie I have the horrible realization that "Im watching a really expensive "Meatloaf" video...." All it needed was a motorcycle.

*edit* Apparently someone agrees with me:

"Like overpriced costume jewelry, this tasteless, soulless contraption is sure to appeal to anyone who owns Celine Dion and Meatloaf albums."

And I sat here and dreaded someone else getting it for you guys.

wrestlingtorrents.tk is tyring to stay low profile... you might want to take down that link. ;) You can leave my name up though... just change it to "Happy Birthday" :)

in reference to photognome mentioning Phantom above... Beautiful Girls is on right now.. which of course features the one good thing about Phantom (okay... not the only good thing... Liam rocks too)... miss Natale Portman... adorable and sexual from I'm betting birth based on the Professional.
