yendiMy child claimed, in the car, that she loved Mondays. You wouldn't know this by the sturm und motherfucking drang involved in waking her up, getting her to get dressed and eat breakfast, and not killing her in the morning. Fortunately, her grumpiness tends to fade away quickly enough, even without coffee.

Nifty news for Atlanta folks: Criminal Records, one of the best indie music and comic shops in town, will now accept gift cards from chain book and record stores, and big mega-stores (wal-mart, Target)! See the newsletter link on their page for more info.
Only five days until Gang Green gets a vacation courtesy of the Steelers. But I'm still going to watch every painful minute of the game. Maybe if Abraham heals up, we can get a decent pass rush and intimidate the rookie. It's been a strange enough postseason already. Had to love both of yesterday's games, although I'd have enjoyed them more (from a "good football" side of things) if the Broncos had actually shown up to play.
Still on sports, looks like my Mets have signed Beltran. Unlike the Pedro signing, this is a signing that makes me happy, although it's far from everything the Mets need.
We got our Westfield shipment on Friday, and there were so many comics, I still haven't finished them all. That said, I'm not sure any comic could make me happier than the new Legion of Super-Heroes reboot by Mark Waid. Damned near perfect, working on levels that appeal to the old-time fanboys (murnkay and me, for example), and to folks who've never read Legion at all (shadesong). And Waid's re-interpretation of Colossal Boy just cracked me up.
Other comics that were nifty included Vaughn's latest Ultimate X-Men, which showed us the Ultimate Universe's answer to Ken Jennings, and had some of the best dialogue he's ever written. Likewise, Joss Whedon's Astonishing X-Men proves that some great TV writers can really become great comic writers. Avengers #2 continues to prove that Bendis is human, but the other Bendis books were top-notch. Both Waid and Ellis's FF were fun as always. And there was a new issue of Amelia Rules! Yay!
We finally watched O Brother, Where Art Thou, and I must admit to being a little bit underwhelmed. It may be that too many folks have hyped it to death, but I thought it was a cute, fun little picture, but not much more. There's nothing wrong with that, of course, but everyone else who's mentioned it has adored it, and it just didn't do it for me. Nice soundtrack, though.
We really did nothing else this weekend. Which was fine. Relaxed, read, did a little cleaning, etc. Low-stress (other than watching the Jets nearly choke). Weekends like that are nice.
Days like this are not, however. Just spent half an hour tracking down and fixing a co-worker's mistake. That said, better than my first assumption (that there was a bug in the program we're using).
Time to get more coffee.
