Me (interrupting her looooong talk about Inkheart): You should go potty. You can take Inkheart with you. Or something less challenging. Bathroom reading doesn't have to be brain surgery, especially since brain surgery on the potty isn't a good idea.

Elayna: Silly. How can you do brain surgery on the potty? The toilet doesn't have a brain.

Me: Well, that's the first problem. You've got to put a brain in the toilet first, and that's just gross.

Elayna: And illegal.

Yes, she takes this stuff in stride, and can even run with it. :-)

In other Elayna news, she got elevated to the highest spelling group today, and still got a 90% on the pre-test. I think her teacher needs to form a completely new group just for her.

An older female professor (and my former employer) in the anthropology department to our job candidate today: "Here's the restroom. It's bisexual, so make sure you lock the door."

After job candidate is in bathroom, I look at her and go, with mock seriousness: "It's a toilet. Hopefully, if it's bisexual, it's also celibate. If not, I'm never locking the door again."

This should really be a top level post, shouldn't it?

I was in my own spelling and reading group at her age.

Well, me and three other kids. We were in a separate reading-and-spelling-group from second to fifth grades.

One of those kids grew up to be my divorce attorney! :)

Oh, I'm sure it is, but she hates spending too much time reading her main book - the one she has to read for school -- when she could also be reading her comics.
