Had my first iPod crash today. Foo. Was easy enough to follow Apple's instructions and fix it, but it still sucked.

We got to see irana and family last night! Yay! We sat around and watched Shrek 2 and I dozed off because I am teh suck, but it was still fun. Yay!

Also watched the big cross-dressing gender identity episode of Popular, which was just wonderful (and more powerful because it didn't take the easy way out at the end). So damned good.

And between last night and this morning, I finished watching the recent History Channel broadcast of The French Revolution on my Tivo. Anyone with any interest in history, or even current world affairs, should try to catch a rebroadcast of this one. It's one of the best overviews on the subject that I've seen. And it's narrated by Edward Hermann!

shadesong is off to Arisia today, where she'll be meeting up with at least a few of you. Have fun, all!

Not much else of interest, link-wise. But tell me that this cartoon isn't a wish-fulfillment fantasy for anyone who's say through a horrible Matt Lesko commercial.

How long have you had your iPod? I've had mine for about seven months and it has acted up software-wise about four times. I was thinking maybe I got a bad one, but now I'm wondering.

I've had it for about two months, and this was the first crash. I'm not sure how frequent crashes are supposed to be. I'm hoping this is a major fluke.

Hmmm... I'll have to check it out (The French Revolution). I saw the ads for it this weekend when I was watching Beyond the Davinci Code, which was also narrated by Edward Hermann. As well as a Christmas special (something about the mysteries of Christmas) that I watched last month.

I had been wondering why Hermann got a special tag line during the credits of Gilmore Girls; I couldn't recall what else he had been in. But if he's big time over at the History Channel, that's pretty cool.

He's been one of the great character actors for years. Played Roosevelt in a couple of movies, was wonderful as Hearst in The Cat's Meow, and he's done all sorts of other roles. I think the History Channel gigs are comparatively recent (but he's got a perfect voice for narrating documentaries).

One of my favorite Edward Herrmann roles was the aristocratic character in the movie Tom Baxter escaped from in Purple Rose of Cairo.

What's the "easy way out" in a gender identity story?

Sorry- - I was unclear on that. The easy way out didn't involve the gender idenity issue itself (it was a non-recurring character who announced he was going to be a woman, and didn't deviate from that path), but the acceptance of that identity, in terms of how the school board reacted to the changes. They could easily have gone with the traditional after-school-special feel (everyone is convinced in the end to not protest/vote the crossdresser out of the school), but instead had an ending that didn't leave the main characters satisified, even though they did the right thing.

Not to mention this nut job runs at least 3 pyramid scheme companies that I know of. An old friend of mine got suckered into one of these things and she tried to get me to go to a convention in town that Lesko was appearing and speaking at. What I love is whenever I asked her what the company did, her answer was, "We help people turn residual income into larger amounts of money." Ok, but what do you do? Do you wave a little magic wand and make my money grow.

Wow! I knew that his book was a scam (loans are not free money, no matter what he says), but I didn't know he also ran pyramid schemes. Not a surprise, though.

History Channel's been doing some great ads. Their Alexander promos ("They didn't call him Alexander the Dumbass") were hysterical.

I think that TFR is being rerun this weekend.
