My husband was ordered to quit caffeine by our doctor. He did. The first weekend he went without he got a migraine that laid him up for the entire day Saturday and most of Sunday. But Monday he was fine.
My friends recently had a discussion about this since one realized that she was addicted and wanted to break it. The consensus seems to be, based on various experiences, that quitting coffee cold turkey is painful for 2-3 days, but after that, it's fine.
I'm addicted to sugar rather than caffeine, so it's sometimes amusing and a little strange to me to watch coffee addicts get antsy without their caffeine. Then again, without my sugar, I get really, really sleepy....
I don't understand the masochism of insisting upon quiting cold turkey, those headaches really do hurt and they're not necessary, you can taper off over a week and quit as effectively
