Oscars -- eh. Chris Rock was terrible, but not Letterman terrible. But it's sad when Robin Williams (and a sub-par RW, at that) upstages you in two minutes. Awards were okay, as far as any set of awards that basically only recognized the two best films of last year -- Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and Sideways -- for their screenplays could be. Most of the speeches were fine, at least. Dustin Hoffman seemed drunk out of his mind at the end, but otherwise, nothing really interesting. I thought we'd have a fun moment with Sean Penn, until it became clear that his going off script was, well, scripted. As is, they need much better writers.

I wonder what chuffs Scorsese more: Losing to yet another actor-director (although only Costner, of the three who have beaten him, really is a subpar director), or losing to a boxing movie after his own boxing movie failed to win. Either way, it only matters if you believe that Oscars validate the greats, and anyone who thinks that isn't very up on Oscar history.

Elsewhere, go Dragons! Yes, the lack of hockey forced me to decide between Arena Football, Pro Basketball, or College Basketball. And given my opinion of the latter two, the fifty-yard game won easily. Besides, the only team sport that really matters starts soon enough.

The great cube move continues. I moved both bookcases on Friday. Now I can move (and weed) all my shit.

The move's a good thing, btw - puts me in a better location, gives me more privacy, etc.

Great article on John Gilmore (founder of the EFF) over here. Props to him for fighting the TSA. Someone sure has to.

Over in Kingdomofloathing, today's the feast of Boris! Pig out! I just earned my Platinum Skull trophy for pigging out on spaghetti with Skullheads. Woot!

Finally, for those who are curious about the Oscar for Best Animated Short, Heidi MacDonald has links to all five nominees over here.

Our local paper has decided, that since there is no MLH, they were going to adopt a Rec Hockey team. So they did. They get front page coverage, interviews with the players, stories about the league, and the local Rec teams are getting a huge boost in ticket sales. It's all very cool :)

Here, read this article (http://www.freep.com/sports/hockey/rhinos12e_20050212.htm) about the start of the whole thing. I approve :)

I remember they said it was JS Bach, but I don't remember exactly which piece.

I'm so with you on "the only team sport that really matters". :) Of course, when it comes to specific favorite teams we do differ slightly. However, it remains the one sport I actually will watch a team I am not a fan of play and enjoy it almost as much.

However, I've made different choices on the others. My sub-sports are Hockey and Basketball. For some reason, I regard football as flatly uninspiring. Not that I don't respect it, although I spend a lot of time cracking jokes to tweak friends about it not being a real sport due to the excessive body armor. (shhh...yes, they know I watch hockey, but don't seem to use it in rebuttal)

Next year requires a two drink minimum for all attendees.

Oh she seemed gracious. They could probably just resolve their differences in a foursome, although Warren Beatty might be tired these days.

Minimum. Maximum can be whatever they want. I want to hear them though. So only one or two should really be in full slurring mode.

Kind of like Spielberg - except Spielberg didn't get that much of a cheering when he got the Lifetime Achievement. He had to wait until he won for Schindler's List and then made fun of Sally Fields.

Huh. Both Kevin and I thought Robin Williams was terrible, we actually fast forwarded at some point.

I thought Chris Rock did pretty well with some of it, terrible with some.

Robin Williams and Chris Rock both suffered from familiarity. I've seen their routines. I know how they are going to tell jokes. I'm bored with both of them.

But Robin WIlliams wore out his welcome much faster than Chris Rock.

To be fair to Robin, his original song was removed by the AA and ABC, os he tried to use the material, not to the best effect..

I'm surprised good ol Heidi (btw, as an aside I've known her personally for about... maybe 10 years going now) didn't find the

but the RYAN link she found is cooler than the one I did. Although the one I found lets you buy a DVD. You can see my personal write up at the end of this just posted shortly ago entry:

Which I'm thinking should give you some fun linkage...
