Okay, I've known for a while that the next Pratchett book was called Thud!, and I'd figured out that it would involve a dwarf/troll conflict (since Thud is the name of the game based on a famous dwarf/troll war). But one of the Discworld mailing lists I'm on has published the initial blurb, and it's a Vimes book:

Koom Valley? That was where the trolls ambushed the dwarves, or the dwarves ambushed the trolls. It was far away. It was a long time ago. But if he doesn't solve the murder of just one dwarf, Commander Sam Vimes of Ankh-Morpork City Watch is going to see the battle fought again, right outside his office. With his beloved Watch crumbling around him and war-drums sounding, he must unravel every clue, outwit every assassin and brave any darkness to find the solution. And darkness is following him.

I do not want to wait until October, dammit.

I actually bought the game, Thud! but I haven't found anyone to play it with me yet.

Well, I've looked through them once, the game seems like something inbetween checkers and chess. I know that sounds like a lame explanation, but...imagine checkers if the two players' pieces moved in entirely different ways. And a game isn't complete unless both players have had a chance to play as the dwarves and the trolls. I imagine the gameplay itself would be quick once you got the rules down.

I didn't like Night Watch as much, but the others have been very good.

I adored Night Watch, and Vimes is right up there with Death as my favorite characters.

Oh good that means in October the last book will go to paperback and I'll be able to read it ...

... the joy of not being able to comfortably read hardcover books. :-/

Oooooh...it's coming out right before my birthday. Wonderful!

Wait, that's still half a year away, and in the same month as Archon, meaning I will be broke as fuck when it comes out. Augh, the badness.

I've been assuming that the future title When I am Old, I Shall Wear Midnight is likely to be a witch book.

Never mind, that's another Aching book. While that's technically a book about a witch...not the same.

I'm braindead today.
