The April issue of Bookslut hit today. My column is a very preliminary look at werewolf books (a topic I'll need to revisit down the road). [livejournal.com profile] lizlet and [livejournal.com profile] hangingfire collaborate on a look at Sin City as an adaptation; there are interviews with Camille Paglia, Ian Rankin, and Sonya Taafe (aka [livejournal.com profile] sovay); and The Mystery Strumpet takes a look at Travis McGee, one of my favorite detectives. All are worth a read.

Wooo, thank you! I love werewolves, and it's good to have another set of books to put on reserve. I've even had a hankering for lycanthropic pursuits recently, having watched two of the three Ginger Snaps movies (the third should be here tomorrow).

And McGee is a long time favorite of mine too!

It's not bad. It's not near as good as the first one, as you can expect, but it's still better than a great many werewolf movies I've seen.

Granted, that's not hard to do considering I once saw I think it was Howling 7 on Monstervision with Joe Bob Briggs and would have sworn it was filmed entirely with a cheap camcorder.

Have you read the original Werewolf text by that French Monk/priest from the mid 1700's? It is very interesting because he not only uses folklore, but interviewed villages dealing with werewolves and even a sherpard that becamme a werewolf. His ideas on werewolves are very interesting.

Nope it wasn't Gould, that was more legends..this was a monk/priest who actually talked to people attacked by werewolves and could turn into werewolves. he covers a bit of legends, but his work is mostly on face to face interviews -- and the book was translated from French, I think. I'll have to go home and pull it from my library.

You know who I thought did a nice Christian Werewolf story was Robert Howard and Solomon Kane battled a werewolf in one short story...it was very well done.
