Monday, bloody Monday
Apr. 25th, 2005 09:03 amLots of work. Feh.
Weekend reading:
As I mentioned, I found (two weeks early!) a copy of Charlaine Harris's Dead as a Doornail, and devoured it in about four hours on Saturday. It's quite fun. Not perfect -- she's teetering (although in a much better-written way) into Anita Blake territory, but it's still a fun ride. Much better copyediting, too. :-) One unresolved plotline (not counting the new one hinted at the end, which is just a teaser for the next book), one one plotline resolved in a silly manner, but still worth the read.
I also read Sue Grafton's C is for Corpse, having finally found a copy at the library. It was fun, as were the first two, but the ending was hampered by Grafton's shtick of having Kinsey write the books as "reports." Instead of a decent wrap-up that takes, say, five pages, she spends one page after the climax summarizing the after-effects, and it doesn't work for these characters nearly as well as it did for the first two mysteries. The secondary plotline (a real-estate scam) also didn't click, as it made one intelligent character look way too stupid. That said, I did enjoy it, and just requested the fourth from Library storage.
Other weekend stuff:
Saturday, we hit Crescent Moon for the first time in ages, and I read for most of the afternoon.
Also, this Saturday,
tsarinanic got married! Hooray! I can't wait to see pics!
Sucktastically, we couldn't be there, as airfare would have cost more than we have in the bank (which is why many of you heard
shadesong and I bitch about money over the last week or so). Fortunately,
tsarinanic registered at one of the few places that we have a store charge card with. :-)
Alas, we couldn't be there, as we
Sunday, we cleaned, did laundry, and read.
Also watched a little TV (the three episodes of season 4 of Surreal Life that remained on the Tivo, and a few other shows), and I reinstalled Diablo II on my Mac.
Today, work. Work. Lots of it. Plus writing that needs to be completed.
