Elayna's reading Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants (in preparation for the movie). And she was horrified -- had to stop and let me know how shocked and appalled she was, even -- to find that the word "shit" appears in it (only once, and in a line of dialogue that made it clear that it was bad language). She goes on diatribes when she sees "damn" and "hell" (even when used contextually in their proper meanings). I love that my daughter is neither titillated nor blasé when she encounters curses -- I'd gone through both phases by the time I was her age.

And she won't even repeat the words she encounters when she finds them -- she'll say "they just used the h-word," or "beaver" for "damn" (she knows that beavers build dams, not damns, but it's as good a way to convey it as anything -- the Elayna equivalent of English Rhyming Slang).

She's more accepting that other kids might do it. She's just surprised that adults (who, in theory, should be better about following rules) do it.
