"I don't see him as a monster."

Gee Mrs. Rudolph. That's just what Echidna said about that cute little three-headed puppy of hers.

(Which is not to imply that Cerberus was half as disgusting and horrible as Eric Rudolph, of course)

some people, unfortunately, are on the dark side

Dude, did she just blame Darth Vader for her crazy son?

"I'm sure they feel the same type of sorrow of losing some loved ones, but their life has to go on as well as mine," she said. "You learn to live with it."

Man, she's cold.

More truthful than cold. I'm not crying about the Tsunami victims because I didn't know a single one. I can't cry for everyone that dies either.

I am certainly not suggesting that she cry for everyone who dies. But, call me crazy, her son did bomb the hell out of a lesbian bar and some abortion clinics, killing and injuring people a bit more specifically targetted than the victims of the tsunami.

Telling those families to, in effect, suck it up smacks of her not being able to feel any degree of empathy with them. Even if we aren't crying for the faceless dead (which is a pretty useless activity), as a general rule people are more tactful than to express things without any sympathy whatsoever. Particularly when the deaths or injuries were caused in such a deliberate fashion.

And I'm not saying it's not TRUE. Certainly, people have to get on with their lives. But it's still cold.

True. But in the world of quotes, it's really hard to say how she meant the statement.

That's very true as well. I can only interpret her statements based on what I've read from her in other articles and whatnot.

It'd be easy to cry media bias but I've yet to see an article supposing she's an unfeeling monster herself and that must be from where her son got it. Though.... Given their politcal leanings, that might certainly have been a factor.

Eh, none of us live in a vacuum. She makes a good point that he chose his own path. Now everyone affected must live with the consequences.

Who can really see their friends and loved ones as monsters? Ann Rule's book about Ted Bundy was compelling because she knew him as a friend and a fellow volunteer.

Jeffrey Dahmer's dad wrote a book. I think the overall theme was "what the fuck did I raise?"
