Elayna just finished Deenie.

She's reading The Care and Keeping of You: The Body Book for Girls at the breakfast table.

And she's reading The Lottery Rose for school.

My life is a series of really uncomfortable questions right now. :-)

(And no, I don't consider "go ask your mother" to be an acceptable response, unless I genuinely don't know. It's not like Elayna's not also giving [livejournal.com profile] shadesong her share of questions as well).

I had to do that about two years ago. My sympathies.

And last time I was in St. Louis we had a talk about eighth grade, peer pressure, and why boys are teh_evil.

She was with me on everything but that last item, for some odd reason.

Frequently heard from Elayna: "I'll go ask Mommy. She probably knows more about it."

Yeah.

You'll probably both get a kick out of this; it was a summary of my daughter's sixth grade "Pre Sex Ed Discussion For Terrified Parents" meeting.

LOL!

Teachers learn not to let anything in the classroom faze them. When you react emotionally, you lose control of the class. So you don't make a big deal about a weird question or a totally stupid question. (Like "Is there a 'g' in adultery?" There isn't even a "G" sound in the word, so there is no need for a g!)

Hey, it means that when she hits the scary, almost sexual age of 12/13, she will have all the knowledge at her fingertips and will understand her body better than most preteens out there. A little embarrassment for you goes a long way in easing the embarrassment for and pressure on her.

She sounds like an incredible kid. Good work. I love parents like you. (I've worked with kids for years...I've seen them all).
