When [livejournal.com profile] sweinberg noted last week that Disney was releasing Kronk's New Groove, a direct-to-DVD sequel to my favorite Disney flick in recent memory, I actually had hope. After all. the original movie was supposed to fail drastically (especially after it was retooled from a musical to a buddy comedy), and still somehow worked. And they got the entire cast back (not that David Spade was exactly tough to get in between bad Comedy Central shows and credit card commercials). And besides, according to that Amazon link, no less a reviewer than Modernmom.com's Lolita Carrico says that it'll "keep the whole family entertained," and if you can't trust someone named Lolita, who can you trust?*

But [livejournal.com profile] lordrexfear linked to this trailer, and I'm afraid that it looks like this movie both sucks and blows. Even Elayna thought so, although she didn't use the same metaphors.

*This might be the time to point out that http://modernmom.com seems to be a dead link. But I'm sure it'll be up and running and posting a positive review by December.

Out of curiosity, have any of Disney's direct-to-DVD sequels to our most beloved cartoons (and our most gag-inducing ones too) not both sucked and blown?

Ahh. Atlantis disappointed me enough (it seemed like a lot of the movie got cut for time) that I never investigated the sequel.

Dang, I was afraid of that.

Lil Un was prepping for KNG, by watching ENG for the last two weeks.

You know, Jim saw that trailer first - and went into orbit, he was so pumped over it.

It's Kronk. How can it not to so silly it hurts?

'Even Elayna thought so, although she didn't use the same metaphors.'

No, she said 'I'm afraid that it looks like this movie is the equivalent of a relatively strenuous act of grownup activity.'

Damn it... so I'm the only person who was "Okay, this is the stupidest, most retarded plot ever, but it's still Patrick W. so it rules no matter what!?!?"

I still don't see from the trailer how Kuzco or Pacha are even involved...

and since John Mahoney and PW probably filmed their stuff seperately we don't get what would probably be hilarious comedy acting.

At least the art looks the same! Right? RIGHT!??!

I'm relying on you to fall on this grenade for us and tell us how it went. Me, I'm never watching another Disney direct-to-video sequel again unless I am trying to pacify many children or I have enthusiastic recommendations from at least two independent witnesses.

Ah, but is it worth sacrificing two grenade-coverers if it turns out to be as awful as most of those straight-to-video sequels? I'm not sure I want to risk it. We'll see whether you make it back unscathed first.
