I've started writing a novel.

(And by "started," I mean that I've written two chapters. And by "chapters" I mean chapters like the ones in Cat's Cradle.)

No, not really ready to talk about it unless I make serious progress, but the damned plot's been bouncing around my head for a week, and once my head added a subplot with new characters yesterday, I figured I had to either start writing or start drinking heavily to get the damned thing out.

While performing the most important novel-writing task*, I came across this page of wonderful novel-writing advice. I think I might have to follow all of the tips.

*Procrastinating.

I know the feeling. ;)

I'm thinking of going back and revising my recent story for class and expanding it like it wants to be. It spun out of control and I had to chop it short just to get to class on time, but it's still in my head. If it's still in my head after writing most if it, then it needs to be finished.

Ever seen Elmore Leonard's Ten Rules of Writing (http://www.elmoreleonard.com/index.php?/forums/viewthread/20/)?

In all fairness, the advice to avoid Strunk is right on the money. I've never seen such a load of bunk and quackery in all my life.

we can flog eachother on. I've been futzing with one for about two years now, and finally told my sister to start demanding a chapter a week from me. if I stick with that pace, I can wrap this sucker by march.

though drinking heavily tends to be a good idea regardless.
