Friday stuff

Was at a conference in Decatur all day yesterday, hence no posting or hanging around on LJ.

TV-wise, have watched this week's Veronica Mars (yay!) and 2.5 episodes of Rome (fun).

Nifty fact that will mean very little to most of you:

When Apple attempted to out-AOL AOL and build E-World in the early '90s, they first tried to buy Softarc, makes of FirstClass, and simply rebrand the software.

I did get more out of the conference, but that was the nifty fact.

I remember E-World. May have even dialed into it once.... Once... I also ran a First Class server with 4 modems for incoming connections. Four port serial card in a Quadra pizza box, if I remember correctly.

Ah, those were the days. Our FC server ran on a similar box at one time. Now we're talking about moving it to a Sun Blade.

Veronica Mars

I don't think the show made it very clear how Wallace managed to figure out who damaged Jackie's car. I had to watch his scenes twice to make sense of it.

It caught me off-guard at first, as well, but it also made sense. I like that he was able to work it out on his own (although he also got lucky) -- he's too smart to just be Veronica's errand boy.

I took that for him playing off the reporter being an idiot, not his being an idiot. I assumed that conversation was when thing started gelling.

The first time through, I thought he was going to do the "rub a pencil lead over the paper to see what was written on the previous sheet" trick to find out what the reporter had already learned. That's why I had to watch twice to figure out what he was actually doing.
