Problem is, I can't think of a single reason besides my complete hatred of increasing government legislation that the technology is a problem.
I mean honestly, the only argument for not having some sort of flag like that is so we can record things. Things that someone else holds the copyright to, things they don't want you copying, only viewing. Makes sense that they want this tech.
The counter arguments that the end user should be able to copy it doesn't have a leg to stand on with copyright laws.
Except there are plenty of legs, starting with the Betamax case, after which it was decided that copying for personal use was perfectly acceptable. This has been in precedent for 20+ years, and goes beyond that in terms of proof-of-concept (folks making mix tapes, or even making a mimeographed copy of a magazine article).
