Has he actually done anything particularly useful? The only things I know about him are that he A) got fired from the LotR movies, B) did Queen of the Gosh-Darned, and C) schtupped Charlize Theron. And although the last earns my eternal respect, it's not exactly a sign of acting ability.
You know, Stuart Townsend's career saddens me....back in the day, before he went all Hollywood, I had high hopes for him. He did some nice little Irish/British comedies with some pretty good quality actors and the theory was that some of their talents might rub off on him. But, alas it wasn't to be; About Adam came along things went progressively downhill from there. But now we have Cillian Murphy, and as long as we ignore Colin Farrell we should be ok......
I'm just amazed at how succussful Murphy's gotten over the last few years -- he's gone from just being this guy from an indie horror flick into the Next Big Thing.
Now here's hoping he does not become the next Farrell.
It's weird, in Ireland we have a whole stable of very very talented actors, many of whom have Hollywood careers. But they still do low budget productions and theatre work over here. And then there's the likes of Stuart Townsend and Colin Farrell who probably had some amount of talent at some point, but got caught up in the whole celebrity thing and are just an embarrassment at this stage. Well, Farrell at least. Let's hope Murphy stays in the former category!
Heh, *points to windswept's comment above* actually a rather large percentage of the cast in that movie would fall into the former category, so maybe he will be ok!
Actually makes me a little sad. I only saw one ep (I don't watch CSI and am trying to avoid getting hooked on any series right now) and it wasn't that bad. The acting was okay, the situation not stretching the suspension of disbelief too hard, and it was nice enough to look at. The thing was it didn't have the same feel as the original Kolshak. The only thing they really had in common was the name of the main character and his profession.
I think if they divorced it entirely from the original story and put it in a better time slot, not to mention advertised it some, it might have had a better run.
In truth, I'm usually sad to see this sort of story go, even if I'm not watching it personally, just because I think that there needs to be more fantastic plot lines on TV (and by 'fantastic' I mean 'born of fantasy' not 'outstandingly good'. Night Stalker was first but not so much the second). If I watch TV, it's for some diversion and entertainment. Reality shows bug me, sitcoms usually insult me, and cop dramas (Even if I've seen 3/4 of Law and Order twice at least, in all it's incarnations) often are depressing. Well done supernatural/sci-fi/kinda out there things tend to leave me with a feeling there's something bigger to look towards and occasionally some hope that the best in people can be brought out. This isn't to say that such shows can't be depressing (X-files), overdone or even just bad (The Immortal, watched three minutes of it and still want those brain cells back), just I think they have something to offer that alot of what takes up airtime these days doesn't.
So, sorry to see it go. For that matter, I hope Townsend gets a decent gig that needs him for something other than to look pretty. (Yes, I know he had a chance at LotR, and boy must he think about how much that career move sucked daily).
I do agree that the need for more good sci-fi and fantasy is huge -- this is the first year in a while that I've actaully felt like I had choices within the genre world, and it's a good thing.
And I might well have enjoyed Kolchak more if it weren't tied in to the franchise.
But yeah, I'm hoping that more of them survive (it's pretty much a given that there will be at least four supernatural shows -- Lost, Supernatural, Smallville, and Medium -- at a minimum next year, and I'm guessing it'll be more like seven or eight holdovers).

Hm--and some other movie that he starred in with Charlize Theron and Selma Hayek. I never heard of it after I saw the trailor for it in the theatres.
So far, he's done nothing useful, but I still love him. I don't know why.

Yes, a crush based on nothing more than his fabulous powdered down body in QotD.

I kinda figured it was doomed.
