I periodically go through my Amazon wishlist (since it's at almost 400 items) and find items that aren't available, aren't desirable, or otherwise need to be removed from my list.

I also look through the book section periodically to see if any hardcovers have been released in paperback, and when that happens, I remove the hardcover and place the cheaper edition on my list instead.

In the process of doing this, I came across the hardcover edition of Perez-Reverte's The Queen of the South. Since it had been out for a while, I figured there'd be a paperback version, and lo and behold, here it is.

But then I saw that there was also a link to the paperback "bargain price" version on the top of that page. Since they have the same ISBN, there's no real way to link to it other than though the "other editions" section, but the deal's there. Yes, for some reason, it's already been discounted to $4.99 from the original. And it's in stock (I ordered it and had my copy already ship yesterday). I know there are other Perez-Reverte fans on my list, and I don't think you'll find a better deal on this one.

The other weirdness I encountered was an item that had been, as far as I can tell, completely removed from their listings. I periodically find items that are listed as "no longer available" or whatnot. Makes sense, as things go out of print. But the listing itself usually stays up (if only because Amazon also helps sell second-hand books). But I found a listing that had been completely removed, to the extent that the book title itself wasn't listed, there was no link, and I could find no information about what had been there. I have no idea what vanished from my list, but I'm curious. Alas, I was never anal enough to make a full backup of my wishlist.

Ok, so here's an odd one. Yes, I'm a Perez-Reverte fan. Just didn't know that you were, though. It's not like its in either of our interest lists. The thing about reading it, though, is that it's only as good as its translation. I really enjoyed Soto's translation of The Club Dumas, but then found one of the others that I read (don't remember if it was Flanders Panel, Seville Communion or Fencing Master) really dry.

I'm guessing you've seen The Ninth Gate, but have you seen Uncovered? (Not a great rendition of Flanders Panel, much in the same way Ninth Gate wasn't a good Club Dumas, but still interesting to see it done...

Well, I would have thought a horror movie directed by Roman Polanski and starring Johnny Depp might have the potential for being good. Don't know where they went wrong (and don't really want to sit through it again to try to find out...)
