Amazon pre-order deals: Serenity, Chick Flicks, J-horror, and others

Amazon's got a few more pre-orders at better-than-expected discounts.

Serenity is $16.98 (43% off, and don't forget that the box set of Firefly is still 40% off at $29.96).

In Her Shoes is $16.98 (43% off) and Must Love Dogs is $17.98 (38% off, because they know Cusack fans will buy it anyway).

Dark Water is $16.98 (43% off), and hey, has Jennifer Connolly in it.

The unneccessary remake of The Bad News Bears is pre-selling for $17.98 (40% off). The original one is only 30% off, at $6.99, but it's a better deal.

The Island is $15.98 (47% off), and has, um, nothing but two pretty leads going for it. But it's ranked #147 in DVD sales, which means that people are buying it.

And finally, for those who don't want to pre-order, and who don't want a movie that makes them think as much as The Island does, there's always the new Dukes of Hazzard, available now for $16.98 (41% off). God help you.

ETA: I missed the fact that The Brothers Grimm is also up for pre-sale at $17.98/40% off.

i think he's like some comic book villain who makes the world's most terrible movies in order to lover everyone's iq so he can rule the world with an army of martin lawrence clones.

It's currently the 15th best-selling DVD at Amazon. Not shabby for a movie that didn't exactly rake in the dough in the theatres.

I see from Amazon that The Island is a remake of a 70's film called Clonus. (And here I thought I'd seen all 70's sci fi.) Have you seen it?

Nope.

That said, it's not a remake. It's a plagiarism, from what I've heard (the makes of Clonus have filed a lawsuit). And it also pretty clearly lifts heavily from Logan's Run and from Michael Marshall Smith's novel Spares.

I've been holding out hope that that set gets discounted heavily, but it's not looking likely.
