1. My first meal of the New Year? Ramen and eggs (undercooked some ramen noodles slightly, let 'em rest in scrambled egg batter for a while, then cooked it all up and shredded cheese tossed on top). No, I did not eat any black eyed peas today, for much the same reason I didn't sacrifice a goat (which would be that I was either out of goats and legumes, or I don't hold with superstitious claptrap).

2. Watched two episodes of Elayna's Popular Mechanics for Kids: Rip-Roaring Rollercoasters and All-Access for Fun DVD with Miss Kid tonight. I can't recommend these DVDs highly enough -- this is the third one that Elayna has gotten, and she adores them. That said, it's a little creepy watching a young (14-16, depending on the episode) Elisha Cuthbert, looking all perky and innocent, and realizing that she'd soon go on to pose for Maxim and play a porn star.

3. For dinner, I had the remains of the pizza from two nights ago. Yes, a Papa Johns pizza lasted me three nights. Their pan pizza is really that damned filling. Also damned tasty.

4. Elayna's bag arrived a little after ten. Flute was safely ensconced in the middle. And, of course, there was the cute little TSA "Hey, we checked your bag" note.

Today's plan: relaxing around the house in the morning, hitting the Thrashers game in the afternoon.

I do ramen with poached eggs and cheese sometimes. It turns out similar to what you've described.

I'm glad the flute got back safely.

Then again, what doesn't?

My last li'l modification to Ramen was avocado slices. That floated my boat.

Ever seen the microwave-safe egg poachers at supermarkets? I have one such poacher from -- let's see -- Nordic Ware. It clasps together to make two egg-size cups. (Hold it bottom-facing-forward and, with the two little nibs on for it to stand on, it looks like little breasts. It's a Breast Starter Kit! OK, the dirty part of my mind will stop writing now...)

I just sort of balance the egg on top of the ramen brick and don't worry too much about the edges and little floaty bits, then put the lid on to keep the steam in so the top of the egg cooks too.

That's a crying shame about your lack of foodstuffs. Better head down to the 'Black Eyed Goat-O-Rama' to stock up.

Say hi to Heatley for me! :) I will be watching the game on TiVo delay, as I am working today. *pout*

It turns out to have worked out, it is now recording on our TiVo. Oh, and we tried to talk Maddie into going to the game yesterday, as our babysitting fell through, but she wouldn't have any of that. *pout* That was the first Thrashers/Caps game we have missed so far this year.

Re: Elisha and the DVDs:

But I'm sure that, as a parent, you're able to hide the feelings of the creepy so your kid doesn't pick up on them. I'll ask a question probably only non-parents would ask: is that ever difficult?

It's good to hear Elayna's stuff's back home safe. I know I'd've missed my recorder as a kid (the only instrument I ever really played)...

Yeah, but that makes me think of Peter David's "Argh! Oh God!" reaction to tuning into Firefly and seeing Jewel Staite for the first time in years and not being prepared for her to finally be all sexy and stuff. ;-)

I'm probably overthinking this. (I'm an English major. We overanalyze everything.) Have fun at the hockey game!
