According to a Breaking News headline on CNN.com:

Warner Brothers, CBS joining to create CW Network; WB and UPN to cease operations, according to CBS chairman Les Moonves.

Wow.

That would be huge. And it would suck, royally. I watch more on WB and UPN than I do on CBS and NBC put together.

ETA: this link clarifies. I thought that CW was the new CBS, but it replaces WB and UPN, so we're only really losing one network.

Yeah, but both networks have some major crap on them, so if they keep only the good stuff from both, it could be a powerhouse!

OK. My eyes are a little less wide now (my inner reaction was "WHAAATT??!") reading the link. Thanks for finding what Cajun Man would call "clarif-cay-shee-own."

The Memphis UPN affiliate, which was also the WB affiliate, are prob pretty happy campers now.

Good thing my inlaws sold off their digital UPN affiliate back home...

Oh, I'd like Gilmore Girls and Veronica Mars to be on the same night. That would make me happy.

I'm assuming the UPN station in my market will become the CW affiliate, as the WB affiliate is just a low-power station (owned, in fact, by the local Fox affiliate) that reaches most homes via cable. I hope the former WB station continues broadcasting, though, because unaffiliated stations are always good places to look for bad horror movies.

CW and CBS, belonging to the same company... right. And they're going to run two good shows at the same time? Surely not. Unless they plan to segment the market more aggressively.

I think the overall company is Viacom. Viacom owns MTV, VH1, SPIKE, and UPN. This all came up when the WWE moved from USA to SPIKE.
