Today's idiocy

According to a UPS rep who managed to be simultaneously unhelpful and rude (and this from the local UPS delivery center, not an outsourced call rep), "Out for Delivery" does not, actually, mean that a package is out for delivery. It means that it might have gotten within 200 yards of the truck. Maybe.

I've been assured that the package that was sent two-day delivery will arrive in the AM tomorrow. I'll believe it when I see it.

So our copy of The Ghost Brigades remains lost somewhere. Amazon really needs to partner with a better courier, or at least drop the price of Prime (or change the promise to "free three-day shipping" instead).

Alas, I do remember ancient times when we were roomates; I had ordered a new tv from crutchfield and it was coming via UPS.

I also waited and checked--and instead of "out for delivery" it was "package left at center."

What does that mean? It means it SHOULD have been loaded and sent for delivery, but they left the package at the main center, then the driver left for the day, and wasn't about to go back to pick it up and then drive back to dekalb...and despite my begging, they delivered it the next day. Despite the 2-day priority or something....

The problem is, UPS only cares about the customer, and the customers are the big businesses that send the packages. And Folks like Crutchfield and Amazon don't care enough to complain each time one of their customers has a package arrive late.

That's way worse than my always looking up my UPS shipments online at 8:00 in the morning, seeing "out for delivery" and getting the shipment at 8:00 in the evening when you'd think all the UPS trucks made their way back home to rest for the night ;)

Although on one memorable occasion (a total fluke) i called UPS and found out the truck carrying my package was working the other side of the street at that moment, ran outside and intercepted it in person (i knew the driver) :)

Normally they never know which truck has which package...

I did, and got the standard copied-and-pasted reply from an Indian rep who clearly didn't know crap about the issue, telling me things like, "I am sorry that the tracking information on the UPS web site appears
incomplete. If the package has just been shipped, it may not yet
have reached the first UPS hub. During this time, UPS tracking
information may indicate "Billing Information Received."

That's the reason I've pretty much given up on trying to get stuff done through email to them.
