Today's a busy day (meetings, project deadlines), so a host of updates, crammed into one post:

Mets: Well, things are still good, other than the fact that Victor Zambrano is in the rotation (and Aaron Heilman is not). But hey, that's only one guaranteed loss every five days. Not like that could possibly sink a team or anything.

KOL: In the last week or so, I've acquired a bunch of the items I've been looking for, including the Time Trappings, Bow Tux, and TPS. I've also ascended as a Disco Bandit, grabbing Tolerance of the Kitchen as my most recent perm skill.

Reading: George Alec Effinger: Live From Planet Earth. It's wonderful, and you should go read it. Now.

Visiting: [livejournal.com profile] gwynraven came to town on Saturday! Yay! We've introduced her to the joy of The Aristrocrats. She's here for another couple of days, and she'll be accompanying us to the Great Big Sea concert!

Anticipating: The Great Big Sea concert tonight. Yay! Here's hoping for A) lots of stuff from the new album, and B) either no opening act, or an opening act that's a lot better than the last one they had in Atlanta.

Elayna: Miss Kid is choosing not to go to the concert. Her choice -- she has her CCRT tests tomorrow, and didn't want to risk staying out late. It's not something we would have pressured her on (we didn't even broach the subject, as we'd promised her this concert months ago), but I'm proud of her for making a mature decision like that. She also spent a couple of hours yesterday in a lithography workshop at the Carlos Museum, which she enjoyed a lot.

Eating: At Bruster's yesterday, I had a flavor of ice cream called Monkey Madness. It was banana ice cream with swirls of marshmallow fluff and chocolate-covered peanut-butter balls (poor peanut-butter!). Damned tasty.

Cheap-ass, um, ass. And cleavage: Amazon is selling the widescreen edition of Aeon Flux for $14.96 (50% off). Plot not included.

Jets: Less than one week until they can prove, once again, that they can botch any draft, if given a chance.

Well, when they played here, there was no opening act and it was wonderful. :)

Also looking forward to Great Big Sea here as well. Never seen them in concert before so is going to be a new experience.

'It's not something we would have pressured her on'

Because if you'd forbidden her to go, she could've gotten three friends and gone on a night-long quest to see Great Big Sea, like a G-rated version of Detroit Rock City...

AFAIK, there's no opening band on any of Great Big Sea's dates this entire tour. They do two sets, with an intermission in between: one set acoustic, with more traditional material, and the second set Alan Doyle gets to play rock star. :-)

Andrea and I saw them Friday night in Northampton, MA, and it was one of the best concerts I've ever been to, by any band.

Yup, that's what the show was like in Ann Arbor.

Fergueson, Mulroney and Cullen.

If those are the 1st 3 picks in order, I'll be fine.

No Leinart, Cutler or Young. NO.

Btw, I just wanted to say thanks for your recommendation of "Spin" the other day. I really enjoyed it. Thank you.

When I went to see GBS, their opening act was...them! (They said they couldn't think of a better opening act... ;-) ) Also they did a lot of their newer stuff as the opening act (basically traditional stuff as opening act and more "rock" as the act). Hopefully will be similar for you!

Ah, I've seen that, just didn't make the connection. I didn't know it came back, though - that makes much more sense.

I need to get that Effinger book, and perhaps also Budayeen Nights - and I learned from the blurb on that that Effinger was married to another of my favorite writers. Dang. :)

I'm not as into it as I used to be (kolmafia is making it easier, though). So, there have been times I've gone long enough to have 200 turns waiting. ;)

But, I'm doing a lot of meat farming, so it'd be a bit useful right now.

And yeah, you have a Mr. A and a TPS, I think luck is definitely a factor. ;)
