CSI Season Finale

Damn, that was a good one.



First, I'm so glad they didn't kill Brass. On the one hand, they'd already had a detective die in the line of duty (Terrence Cook Lockwood). On the other, we'd just had a season-ender last year with a CSI cast member's life on the line, and I could see them deciding that they simply had to kill someone. But Brass is simply too good a character to kill, and I'm glad they know that. I'm also glad that the episode wasn't just an hour of Grissom agonizing over whether his friend would live or die.

Second, I hadn't seen the other Ellie episode with Teal Redmann (the only Ellie one I'd seen was the season 1 ep with the other actress). I'm damned impressed with Redmann, since the only other part I'd seen her in was as Louise on Gilmore Girls.

Third, the ending must have given tons of 'shippers orgasms. I'm not certain how I feel about it. Some folks seem to think it's a sign of an ongoing relationship (before this episode, in other words). If so, I just don't like it that much. Grissom and Sara have tons of chemistry, but they're also both too fucked in the head to ever really be proper partners for each other; I really expected the camera to pan to Lady Heather (or maybe even Sofia) at the end, both of whom make a lot more sense. That said, if this was more a reaction to the near-death of their friend, I could see it, and I could see it not lasting (look what's happened to Warrick's relationship, formed off a similar reaction).

Fourth, um, what happened to Warrick's relationship? I know it was a busy finale, but I'd have liked to see a mention of it.

Fifth, loved the corset/civil war plotline (which shadesong called early). So many good little moments (my favorite being Bobby pointing out the Cream of Wheat), and a great opportunity for Grissom to get his mind off his friend's condition. Also liked the diabetic bender plotline, as well. If only because they got to imply that a guy got fucked in the ear.

Overall, a damned fine episode, even if not as intense as the previous finale. There was lots of good tension last week, and this provided a nice slow release.

I really expected it to be Lady Heather at the end. Especially since Grissom got to display his knowledge of corsets in this episode.

I'm rather disappointed that is wasn't, truth be told.

Does Mindy Clarke still play Lady Heather? I'd have thought she's too busy with The OC to make road trips to Vegas.

So how was the clue-photo fulfilled, if Brass didn't die?

She does, and The OC would make her unlikely to be a regular, but she's been on the show twice since The OC started (including this March), so I'd imagine the occasional guest stint isn't out of the question.

I mentally called it soon as I saw the button, and called it out loud when they were examining the fibers. I would like it known that Adam did not, at first, believe me. But button + that sort of bullet + those fibers...

And I'm still giggling over how very, very much that guy reminded me of a certain ex.

See, since I got into the show only this season (and have been immersing myself in the history via the Spike TV reruns), I don't have a proper sense of what the fans have gone through. Personally, I think the relationship really doesn't (or, more accurately, shouldn't) work, but much as I love the characters, what makes CSI so much better than, for example, any other show with "CSI" in the title, is the fact that it's not a soap, but actually focused on solving crimes. The crime-solvers just happen to be quirky.

*nod* It wasn't the relationship or lack thereof that sent loyal fans fleeing, although that didn't hurt, it was the abandonment of quality character development and good crime solving. It may be that the show found somewhat of a footing again, that's not what I've heard, but it's understandable that someone who picks up a show mid-stream wouldn't really have a basis for judging that the show used to be. That's really unfortunate.

I was surprised by the fact that it was Sara - but I'm not totally uncomfortable about it. (though a bit disconcerted)
I would have preferred Lady Heather, as well. She would be a better match, IMO...

Lady Heather has my vote, too. I don't see Sara as anything other than a whiny little brat, truth to tell. It all comes back to a couple seasons ago when both Sara and Nick were up for the same promotion, and Sara tried to use her "special relationshiop" with Grissom to secure it for herself, and when she didn't get it, she totally threw a very childish tantarum, and picked on everything Nick did for EPISODES, all while pouting like a spoiled child.

Never liked her after that.

My first guess was to see Grissom typing on a laptop, talking outloud to someone in a chatroom. I dismissed Lady Heather because of other reasons (don't want to spoil for you since I don't know how much past this season you've seen).

I'd have been happier with the Gris/Sara pairing if they had dropped some hint of it instead of pulling it totally out of their asses like that. Guess that is why Sara's head changed direction in the clue photo? But I'll forgive them this little faux pas for not killing off my favourite detective.

Yup, I'm *very* glad they didn't kill Brass. Even if they *did* make me cry again. *long suffering sigh*

I was very surprised to see Ellie, 'cause I mistakenly remembered that she died in the ep where Brass & Warrick go to the crack house (on a very special CSI).

It didn't seem brandy-new, but it didn't seem ancient either. I honestly don't know. They seemed *very* comfortable around one another, and friends/long-time co-workers or not, the first time having sex isn't really one where one has long conversations about how one wants to die. On the other hand, it *is* Grissom...

I think they just didn't have time for Warrick's relationship...*he* didn't have actual *time* to do anything...that was a very compressed ep...did it take more than twenty-four hours? Or maybe he went home, found her stuff gone and that's it for right now.

I do wonder if she was actually planning a party or if it was just a fabulous excuse. If it was an excuse, kudos to her fast thinking. *Grin*

I'm glad the "big" crime was an actual mystery rather than something of a filler to take care of us while Brass was in surgery. It was *freaky*...but dead interesting.

The diabetic bender was *very* interesting. The very detailed medical ones like that make me wonder if they were fictionalizing something real.

I frankly *loved* the finale last season, because they totally fucked with me in so many ways, and hey, that's one of the things I tune in for. But I must admit to being relieved that this year's was a bit more laid back.

And glad they didn't kill Brass. To bring things full circle.;)
