My friend [livejournal.com profile] saffronra went to see that!! You should ask her about it. She was ranting and raving about how fucking awesome it was this morning. :)

Did you see Julie Taymor's movie version (http://imdb.com/title/tt0120866/) with Anthony Hopkins? It was excellent. Especially the part with the pies.

See we had a ton of blood in our production too. the costumer was NOT happy with us. The audience did enjoy that the brothers were stripped down to a thong and tied up before their throats were slit. The brothers were both amateur body builders.

You have to love a Shakespeare play with the classic stage direction Enter Messenger with two heads and a hand.

Call ahead for tickets. It's in a limited run right now, but it's playing into October, so you should get in. The website lists restricted view upper gallery tickets available for the 30th June production; only the Yard (groundlings) is sold out. The house box office might have other seats available as well. And there are always returns, of course.

Check out the Globe's website. And if you buy the tickets from the Globe's ticket office -- either over the phone or in person, you don't pay outrageous service charges.

The groundlings are sold out? Gosh - they sell most of the seated tickets before the season starts (lots of tourists) but you can usually get in to stand a couple of days before... when you've had a chance to see a weather forecast.

It depends on the day/night. The groundlings tickets are the cheapest, so sometimes they go the fastest. When we take 60 students there at a time, they're groundlings. Since we have to charge the kids for the coach, they can't handle 20 pounds for seats. (Besides, they're young. They can stand for three hours. When I'm a groundling with my husband, we get there before door so we can lean against the stage. :)

I always book my tickets far more than a couple of days in advance and hope for the best with the weather. If it looks bad, we bring some of our folk festival gear. No wellies needed at the Globe, though. ;)

I heard of one a few years ago where they had to tone down the amount of blood because the actor's shoes got soaked, squelched and it freaked out the audience. And another that was on a raked stage and they used so much blood it rolled off the stage and soaked the first couple of rows.

So, they used more gore than usual for the midnight production? It's a pretty gory play -- and a pretty gory version of it. It's been getting good reviews, and I do intend to catch it this summer.
