"Ken Lay was neither black nor poor, but I'm angry because Ken Lay was a victim of a lynching. . . The folks who don't like him have had their say. I'd like to have mine ... (Like Jesus Christ) he was crucified by a government that mistreated him." -- Reverend Dr. William Lawson, speaking at Ken Lay's funeral.

Good fucking grief. Don't get me wrong -- I wouldn't expect the funeral to be about Lay's crimes and follies, but comparing him to Jesus and calling him a victim of a lynching? Wow.

(ETA: And yeah, I'd like some specific context on the Christ comparison, given the parentheticals. But the rest of that sentence implies it's not likely to be very out of context.)

From top to bottom, a joke. The guest list in that room staggers, and proves to me that had he not died (assuming you don't believe in the "Texas Criminal Law" conspiracy theories) he would have had a comfortable time of things for the rest of his life, prison or no. Ridiculous.

Ken Lay should have been lynched by the people he swindled and stole from.

Well, if I recall correctly, Jesus said "The poor you will always have with you," and Lay was just doing his bit to ensure that. *snark*

Jesus embezzled from the moneylenders in the Temple. Oh, wait. He drove the moneylenders out of the Temple.

Never mind.

I'm so glad I didn't have a drink when I read that...

No, sorry, I can't process that concept... I can't stretch any concept far enough to make that comparison... ooops, my brain just did a GPF

A more apt comparison would have been to the thieves crucified at the same time as Jesus, particularly the one who refused to repent...

Does this mean we can scourge his body and nail it to a cross? I mean, we might as well...

Ah, if only we could have nailed Lay to two pieces of wood.

I wish I could say something witty but I'm too fucking offended. That kind of casual treatment of history and trauma really cheeses me off.

Kenny Boy also compared himself to Jesus. I am very disappointed that he did not rise from the dead.
