Tuesday stuff
Jul. 18th, 2006 09:47 am1. We saw Lady in the Water last night, and I reviewed it here (for anyone who doesn't read LJ at that time of the day).
2. KOL: The NS is dead. For all my botching of this run, I still managed six days and under 750 turns. I'll probably ascend later today as a Disco Bandit Boozefarian to nab the two Moxie days (and don't forget that this Friday is Sneaky Pete's Day!).
3. For some good (but incredibly obnoxious and arrogant) insight into why some brilliant performances didn't get nominated for Emmy's, check out Tom O'Neil's post at Gold Derby. The problem isn't that the voters are morons (well, mostly). It's that each show and actor submits one episode, and some stupid choices were made. What O'Neil fails to acknowledge (or really even see -- he's too embedded within the Academy's scene) is that this is an inherently flawed process, and one that ensures that a show like Veronica Mars has no shot in hell. Still, good reading over there, if only to get a sense of why the process fails.
4. Reading: Having finished Kage Baker's Dark Mondays this weekend, I've moved on to Rum: A Social and Sociable History of the Real Spirit of 1776. It's quite nifty, but I suspect that it won't be enough to satisfy my recent cravings for non-fiction, so I'll probably read a few more from the non-fic pile before heading back into fiction.
5. Oh noes! Dave Navarro and Carmen Electra are splitting up! It's almost as if weddings and honeymoons on MTV don't have any chance.
