Highbrow: An episode of 30 Days, along with a behind-the-scenes.

Lowbrow: Pilot episode of Who Wants to Be a Superhero?, Stan Lee's latest attempt to prove that with friends like him, the comics industry doesn't need enemies.

And (in the "middlebrow" category, I suppose, which is better than Lowenbrau), the free single of the week, "Listen Up," by Gossip, is good. Damned good.

I have to admit, I actually LIKED "Superhero". Mainly because we got to watch Stan chew out the "heroes" after THEY LEFT A LITTLE GIRL CRYING FOR HER LOST MOM in order to win a stupid race!

Nice to see a reality show that lets the contestants know they really are self centered morons. *grin*

I would say that Stan's done enough good for the comics industry that I'm willing to forgive the strange projects he's choosing for the twilight of his life.

I'm curious. Why is 30 Days any higher brow than Who Wants to be a Superhero? I mean, they are BOTH reality television programming (which makes me question their relative high- or low- or ANY- browness anyway).

It's really curiosity, by the way. I'm know what *I* think, but I want some other opinions!

Superhero nearly made my brains leak out of my ears. If nothing else, it made me appreciate how polished Project Runway is.

Well, that's true enough.

Still, Superhero did do a good job of rubbing their noses in their own stupidity...

I guess I don't think superhero stuff is all that lowbrow. I mean, it IS fundamentally about perpetuating the archetypal hero mythology.

I admit, I was amused by watching the majority of the contestants lose at life by ignoring the "lost little girl". Still, that's about all the brain-melty TV I can stand for the month, I think.

I like how Stan chewed out The Creature for being a total flirt, saying superheros don't behave like that, while sitting in front of portrait of Stripperella.

Poor little kid, ignored by all those superheroes. Actually, if Iron whatever-his-name-was had stopped, I would have been frightened for the kid.

I realized yesterday that Stan Lee has won.

I went to the post office to buy some stamps!!! "What manner of stamps," asked I, "hast thou in thy drawer holding Pasty-sided Sheets of DOOM???"

Post Office Lady reached in her drawers and withdrew a coloriforous sheet and BAM! slapped it on the counter! "We have the new Marvel Superheroes stamps, old chum!" Post Office Lady erroneously said as she RUNG! up a sheet of the new DC Comics Superheroes stamps!

Post Office Lady and the non-comicbook-reading publich, in my opinion, have equated superheroes with Marvel Comics, thanks to the X-Men, Spiderman, and Fantastic Four movies. Stan Lee has won.
