Wednesday stuff
Aug. 2nd, 2006 08:59 am1. Today involves four hours of meetings. Joy. And by "joy," I mean "motherfucker," of course.
2. Last night ended up being the night that
shadesong's parents took us all to Melting Pot (Elayna's favorite place). Yum. We had our usual -- swiss/gruyere for the cheese, mushroom salad, coq au vin for the entree, and Cookies and Cream Marshmallow Dream (with dark chocolate, of course) as dessert. Elayna put down seventeen shrimp and quite a few chocolate-covered marshmallows.
2.5 After dinner, I promptly went on a hunger strike for nearly twelve hours.
3. As noted by
popfiend (who reads Lifehacker so the rest of us don't have to), you can now have an Amazon customer support rep call you!
3.5. That said, Amazon's 800 # is 800-201-7575, in case you prefer dealing with Amazon customer support the old-fashioned way.
4. Over in KOL, I had enough meat lying around, so I went ahead and bought the new familiar (the comma chameleon). The content just amuses the heck out of me, even if she's not completely practical.
4.5 Anyone know the new KOL recipes yet?
5. For anyone curious about the long, fucked-up history of the Monarch and Captain Atom characters in the DCU, Newsarama has a nice guide to them. The subtitle could very well be, "why
yendi, a lifelong DC fan, only buys LSH and Shadowpact nowadays."
Time for the meetings to begin!

Date: 2006-08-02 01:11 pm (UTC)For a second, I misread this as 'shadesong's parents took us all to Melting Man.' As in The Incredible Melting Man. Which would make her parents way cool.

comma chameleon
I love these KOL writers, and I've never even met them!

Date: 2006-08-02 02:49 pm (UTC)3. Bless you and the work you are doing! All the world problems will soon be solved. For the children!
4. I had to get one for myself. I anticipated the familiar's powers, hahahahaha!, and managed to buy up out of circulation familar's items to test out.
5. Oh, the new things are verra kewl. The wikki has almost all of them.

Date: 2006-08-02 03:13 pm (UTC)Also, any idea if the 30 turns apply if the chameleon is sent to the terrarium? In other words, if I feed my chameleon an attention spanner, then put it aware, will it have the ADD abilities later, or do they still expire?

Date: 2006-08-02 04:24 pm (UTC)No, I don't know if the CC keeps the abilites, but I would think it does.
I'd test it, but I'm in HC right now, going for Gourdcore, Meatstack and White Citadel.

Date: 2006-08-02 03:31 pm (UTC)2. I didn't know you could order regular entrees such as coq au vin at Melting Pot.
2.5 My hunger strike yesterday failed. That cherry Jolly Rancher got the better of me. And it was good! No wonder that rancher is so jolly!
5. a. I'm glad I only knew or remembered some of that mess.
b. I find it interesting that very-detailed article never mentioned Dr. Manhattan.
c. The Zero Hour and Armageddon books are among the 1500+ comics I've removed from my collection and intend to give away. My friend Ed gets first refusal, but do you want to see my list after he's taken what he wants? Many of these comics are much better than Zero Hour and Armageddon.
d. I only read LSH and Catwoman of the DC super-hero books. What is Shadowpact?
e. Is there a guide somewhere to all the Warner Brothers-DC cartoons? I have Batman Beyond on DVD and would like to start collecting more.

Date: 2006-08-03 01:41 am (UTC)c. I'd love to take a look!
d. Shadowpact is the series that's evolved from the Day of Vengeance miniseries from last year, and is a supernatural team book written by Bill Willingham and featuring characters like Enchantress, Nightshade, Ragman, and (most importantly) Detective Chimp.
e. Well, there's a wiki dedicated entirely to them (although wikipedia itself is also pretty nifty).

Date: 2006-08-03 04:02 am (UTC)c. I'll send you the list after Ed's had his way with it.
d. Sounds like an attempt to rehabilitate previously-stupid characters, a la Grant Morrison's Animal Man.
e. Thanks, that's a useful guide! But isn't it incomplete? I don't see Teen Titans Go! Is the list limited only to those series done in the retro Expressionist/art deco art style?
And what have Zeta Project and Static Shock to do with the DCU?
(no subject)
Date: 2006-08-03 09:48 am (UTC)Zeta Project was a spin-off of Batman Beyond. Static Shock was shown to be within the DCU on multiple occasions, with crossovers with Batman, Superman, JL, and Batman Beyond, as well as an appearance by Static on JLU in the time-travel episode The Once and Future Thing (which is also, I think, the one appearance by Hal Jordan in the Timmverse).

Date: 2006-08-02 04:10 pm (UTC)I highly anticipate participating in "National No Seconds Day" so that I can help demonstrate our national resolve, and belief in personal sacrifice.

Date: 2006-08-02 11:20 pm (UTC)He's died more times than Phoenix has.
On the other hand, it's hard to think of a comic that's been rebooted more times than the LSH; I don't know how you can stand it.
I need a "comics" icon.

Date: 2006-08-03 01:43 am (UTC)As for Force, the difference is that Phoenix has occasionally been a good character. Force was never interesting enough to justify a resurrection.
