Total Eclipse of the Heart

With kitchen appliances and pants that show way too much.

You must watch this video.

Seriously.

(And, as an aside, until seeing this, I didn't realize that TEotH was written by Jim Steinman, best known as the guy who wrote ever song by Meatloaf that anyone remembers.)

It's amazing how much kitchen appliance destruction improves a song, isn't it?

Let's see... Epic song? Check. More than two entirely separate musical themes that share no particular relation to each other? Check. Two voices singing with different points of view? Check. Must be a Steinman.

"Turn around white guys, I don't want to see your ass, turn around white guys, I sure hope that stove's not gas..."

Heh.

The original of that song once made Entertainment Weekly's list of Guilty Pleasures (the writer's comment: "Seriously, I don't understand why she doesn't just slap the guy who keeps telling her to turn around").

They're actually Norwegian so live next door to me (sort of); great isn't it?

As far as I'm aware Steinman wrote all of Bonnie Tyler's songs too and is in fact her husand.

Brilliant!

Any time we hear a particularly Wagnerian rock song, we play "Is it a Steinman?"

Yeah, I knew it was Jim Steinman. But I can't get through this video. I just can't. *shudder*

Jim Steinman: because a good song should never end. Best known as the guy who makes any song he produces 8 minutes longer than necessary by repeating insrumental and chorus ad nauseam. See: Meatloaf, Air Supply, Bonnie Tyler, Sisters of Mercy... the list, it does go on.
