Two good causes

1. Robert Anton Wilson, of Illuminatis fame, is dying of post-polio syndrome. He also lacks the finances to even get through these last few months. Boing Boing has information on how you can help him.

2. In honor of the late John M. Ford, the Friends of the Minneapolis Public Library have initiated a book fund in his name. Donations can be made on this page. John Scalzi is also holding an auction for an advanced (and limited-edition) copy of The Last Colony for the fund. Bidding in that one is already up to $280. Note that the Scalzi auction has various bonus prizes thrown in if it breaks certain amounts.

Not to seem insensitive, as I'm sure this is true and tragic, but this sounds like exactly the sort of ludicrous situation RAW would find splendid fun if it were to appear in one of his books. One of the greatest authors of several generations, dying and unable to pay the rent? What's more absurdly thought-provoking than that?
