Tuesday TV Thoughts
Oct. 4th, 2006 01:59 pmGilmore Girls: What a brilliant concept: Actually air an episode that's well-written! Funny how much better things are when that happens. Of course, there's some irony there, as much of that good writing was focused on pointing how how fucking stupid the last year or so of the show has been.
I wouldn't have minded seeing any of Logan, Emily, or Richard, since they're the only characters who didn't completely blow during season 6. Then again, spending some serious time letting the leads reclaim their place as interesting characters might be the intent here.
Veronica Mars: Hate the new title sequence, from the annoying remix to the use of blurry still photos instead of action shots.
That's about all I hated, though.
First, I loved Mac's roomie. Why? Because she was built up to be a typical nemesis, and then when we finally meet her, she turns out to be slutty and overly perky (as predicted), but also nice. Not someone I'd want to hang out with, but not a mean person, either. And, more importantly, she's a character without any irony whatsoever, which makes her a perfect foil for Mac. And a necessity on this show -- every character is so sarcastic and irony-driven, that there's simply no straight man. Even the sheriff is irony-driven. We need a character who isn't.
Of course, Piz's interaction with Wallace was chock full of snarkiness, irony, and sarcasm, so he'll fit right in, even as he pines for Veronica. But he seems to be a good addition.
I love what they're doing with Dick. He's finally an interesting character, while still remaining unlikable.
And as for the Kendall plotline, it's probably worth noting that we never saw a body.

Check, and check.
I liked the episode, but wasn't fond of the opening.
I did think it was kind of interesting that the theme music has a sort of 'dark' undertone to it, although I definitely liked the original better.

*stuffs her fandom back in the closet* *grin*

And as for the Kendall plotline, it's probably worth noting that we never saw a body.
I thought of this too, but I think it had more to do with the show airing in the family hour than with Kendall possibly not being dead.
