This week's Masters of Horror

This week's Masters of Horror -- starring Meat Loaf and featuring John Saxon looking way too old -- was damned fun. Dario Argento is clearly having fun, and "Pelts," based on a story by F. Paul Wilson, was a blast.

Not to spoil anything, but it contained a scene involving Meatloaf and horrible pain that I've been waiting to see ever since the 467th time I was exposed to "I'll do Anything for Love (But I Won't Do That)."

Song. I only sat through the video two or three times, but the song was on the radio (or on the sound system everywhere) for ages.

Was this a particular form of pain, or was it just a general grievous-pain-to-Meat Loaf thing? 'Cause I'd've thought Fight Club would've helped out some there.

This was excruciating pain. Fight Club was cathartic pain for him (well, until he died).

It was good - less tedious than "The Damned Thing", less one-note preachy than "Homecoming" or "Pro-Life".

Yup. I liked Pro-Life more than I expected (because my expectations for Carpenter are so low at this stage, that it turns out that a Ron Perlman performance is really all it takes to exceed them), but it still wasn't all that good.

I got actual squick at the, er, procedure on the clinic director's desk. But other than that, bleh. Although Ron Perlman brought some nuance to an otherwise lame character. Not unexpectedly.
