This essay (link ganked from [livejournal.com profile] theferrett) sums up almost everything wrong with the For Better or Worse-o-verse.

It's very sad how bad FBOFW become since LJ basically decided to make the strip fanfic for herself...

[livejournal.com profile] binky_betsy, FBOFW's major snark community, has become a daily addiction for me...

That essay hits it spot-on when it talks about the lack of subtlety in the strip in recent years. The whole strip these days reads like a chess game; Johnson is moving the pieces into place so she can declare "checkmate" when she retires, but it's made the strip boring and bluntly manipulative.

Also, what the hell is going on with Michael's house being on fire now (this week's strips)? Don't tell me the whole damn family is going to be living in that same old house again! ("See, John, I told you it was a good idea for us not to sell our house!" -- gee, Elly's right again)

Next thing we know, the ghost of Farley will pop up like the spooky grandparents in Family Circus.

Every fireman reading today's strip will be screeching in agony...Mike and Dee deserve to burn for being so stupid in getting out...of course it'll be the Kelpfroth's fault for smoking cigars...they'll prob burn to death and their eulogy will be a bad pun...of course his manuscript, which will become The Great Canadian Novel where he can buy the old homestead, will be saved somehow...

Oh yes, we've already seen telepathy between Liz and stroke impaired Grandpa Jim, so why not Farley's Ghost(well, maybe if he wants revenge against Aypo and the Pattersons for killing him)...
