Gah. I'm currently running on three hours of sleep. Insomnia is not a pretty thing. I'll have the review up by midday today (likely to be my lunch writing).

1. No huge Amazon sales, but there is a pretty decent blowout of almost all Law and Order sets (spinoffs included). Just about everything's at 55% off or so, but a bunch of sets are no longer in stock.

2. Placeblogger -- tracks city, town, and community-oriented blogs. It's run by the woman who runs our local placeblog.

3. I posted this yesterday, but a reminder: Post offices will be closed today in the US.

4. Today is the Motherfucking DVD release date for Snakes on a Plane!

5. Finally, Slate covers the most amazing and disappointing cultural events of 2006.

Both you and I are doing the insomniac shuffle today...

Thanks for the link to placeblogger, I had not heard of it. It actually showed me two blogs I didn't know about that are about our current abode's city, although it oddly also pulled up a blog in it's search for 'Talbot MD' which seems to have no reason to come up when searching for Cambridge. Guess their search function is a bit broken...

Interesting. There were motherfucking Snakes on the motherfucking Plane at the motherfucking Blockbuster last motherfucking night.

I rented The Devil Wears Prada and two Bollywood movies instead -- couldn't bear to pay to see the motherfucking snakes again.

I know it was supposed to be kind of funny, but some of the snake bits were fairly grisly (as I'm sure you know) and just turned me off the whole thing.

Oddly enough, had it been, say, terrorists, instead of snakes, I think I'd've been okay with it. I guess one expects that sort of brutality from people.

Dude, my LJ friend and online critic [livejournal.com profile] leonardpart6 put SoaP at #10 on his best-films-of the year list. I quote,
Oh, yes, there are snakes, and they are on a plane. Dismissed by many as an internet fad that fizzled all too quickly, revisits to the film after the buzz died down proved that the movie’s charm wasn’t entirely tied into the notion of seeing it with a rowdy opening night crowd. It is, in fact, quite possibly the best B movie ever made, the sort of picture that takes a stupid story and handles it so very smartly. It’s a celebration of big dumb fun that still thrills in all the right ways.
Dude.
