[livejournal.com profile] shadesong and I watched The Departed over the last two nights (because it's hella long).

Wow.

After all the hype, I figured I might be disappointed. I wasn't. Just an amazing movie, with amazing performances by all of the leads (none of whom were nominated? I mean, I liked Wahlberg, but he's far from the the best thing about this movie). I haven't seen Infernal Affairs, as I got burnt out on Hong Kong crime flicks a few years ago and haven't had a chance to catch up on them, but I think Scorsese did a great job of putting his own stamp on the plotline. This almost makes up for his work in Shark Tale.

Not a kidsafe movie (the characters in this movie say "fuck" almost as much as I do) or one for those who can't handle violence, but an incredible movie nonetheless.

Yeah, Infernal. It's totally worth watching (and I'm not a big Hong Kong crime flick person). I still think it's superior to The Departed, and I really really liked Departed.

DiCaprio was the one I wish had won awards all over the place. I thought his performance was totally a revelation.

Yeah, I liked it too, although not enough to actually buy on DVD; I thought DiCaprio did a fantastic job. And Nicholson was classic.

I loved that movie, particularly DiCaprio. At last, a movie where I didn't desperately want him (and his character) to die.

I was in high school when Titanic came out, and my general hatred of the girls swooning over him/that movie spilled over, although apparently not permanently.

When does he not play an annoying little shit? I generally cannot stand Leo but dispite him I too loved the movie. I thought the rat at the very end was a little heavy handed, but still amusing.

leo's boston accent was my favorite cameo of 2006.

(side note: my boyfriend is convinced he works with the statie dignam is based on.)

I am glad you enjoyed it.

I love it!

But you knew that already, I think.
