Fred Saberhagen, R.I.P.
Jul. 2nd, 2007 10:38 pmWell, fuck.
I first encountered Saberhagen's works (like a lot of folks my age) via the Swords books (including Empire of the East, which I found at a used bookstore and was amazed to discover told the backstory of that same world), and only encountered the Beserker and other works later on. His books were amongst my regular re-reads, and even if the Lost Swords series eventually grew a little stale for me, the original trilogy remains one of my favorite series of my teenage years.
Bonus Fact: The reason I adopted the Kansas City Royals as my AL team of choice in the early '80 (before switching to the Twins) was because pitcher Bret Saberhagen shared a surname with one of my favorite authors.

Or are they books of childhood? Ones that lose some of the magic they had in the re-reading?
