No posting yesterday, because it was a day full of suck. And meetings.

Although dinner at the Deluxe Town Diner and ice cream at Rancatore's after (I had the coffee/hydrox ice cream, and 'song and Mouse both went for the Gingersnap Molasses Yogurt) helped a lot.

Anyway, on to some links:

1. ZoMG! The best FPS ever is coming out on Xbox Live Arcade! That and Settlers might be enough for me to finally consider buying yet another next-gen system.

1.5. And yes, I know that you can get the open-source versions right now. Shut up and let me rationalize stuff.

2. Actual quote from SI writer John Donovan: It's almost unfathomable to think that the Red Sox, who own a 10-game cushion on both the Yankees and Blue Jays, can choke away the division lead. Someone introduce this man to the year 1978.

3. WiiFit! Includes yoga!

4. Professional asshole Sam Brownback wants to give the FCC more power to Protect the Children. I sincerely wish that Brownback would just drop out of sight and go back to offering $5 blowjobs in the basement of Westboro Baptist Church.

4.5 The preceding statement was satire. No way would anyone pay $5 for head from Brownback.

5. The BBC is finally showing some common sense regarding their online video situation.

6. Thanks to the combo of youtube and wikipedia, I believe that I have now seen every episode of Happy Tree Friends. Yay!

7. Free off-Broadway tickets for virgins!

8. I got the new Patton Oswalt album on Wednesday, and it's made of win. Geek comedians are a good thing.

9. Branagh's As You Like It, August 21, HBO!

10. This flowchart is too true.

10. This flowchart is too true.

Indeed. I think I might have to print it out and stick it up on the wall.

Better still, stick it up on the fridge and use magnetic fridge poetry sets to insert whatever I should be doing in place of "Update Resume"

Ah, hot link-on-link action!

(Um, uh, I think thoughts like that when still waking up.)

Seriously, thanks for the linkspam. I don't think I said that before.

in re 2: it's the Red Sox; they can blow any lead, no matter how huge it is. We missed the June Swoon this year, but now it's after the All-Star Break, so they'll probably be falling down soon.

(Key to being a Sox fan is to expect the worst, so that you can be pleasantly surprised if they do something right.)

4. Professional asshole Sam Brownback wants to give the FCC more power to Protect the Children.

Brownback also intends to offer an amendment that would give the commission authority to block excessively violent content during the hours when children are most likely to be in the audience.

It was unclear just what would constitute "excessively violent content,"...

This is a scary area - I remember when Mary Whitehouse (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mary_whitehouse) used to campaign against the showing of Tom & Jerry because of its excessive violence.

Hey, it would be a good excuse to censor news of the war, though.
