66. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, by J.K. Rowling. This obscure, unheralded small-press novella by a first-time author. . .

Oh, for fuck's sake. Is there anything I could say that could convince a fan not to read it (most are likely finished), or a hater to reconsider?

Quick opinion: I loved it. Nice job wrapping up all sorts of loose threads, bringing minor characters forward, and providing closure. It's not a perfect book, but it's a damned fun and engaging read.

Highly Recommended, but you really should read the first six books before touching this one.

Now that the whole thing's said and done, I've been thinking about reading these books. Hard to say if it'll ever happen, but you know, only in the sense that it's hard to say how much of anything I'd like to do will actually get done.

I loved almost everything except -- well, the spoiler post I'm about to make will explain.

You're missing a clause

It's not a perfect book, but it's a damned fun and engaging read until the epilogue, which was totally unnecessary and should be torn out of every copy.

AGREED!!

It totally put a bad taste in my mouth, after the satisfying conclusion to the previous chapter.

I liked it a lot, too, but I have yet to find someone who didn't think the Epilogue felt tacked-on and unnecessary.

Besides, this (http://stevietee.livejournal.com/763188.html) would've been a better ending.

Well, I read the last sentence, and thought 'Ah, yes, I can believe that's the one she wrote down as the ending years ago."

Haven't bothered to read any of the rest.

It's not quite the line Rowling wrote: she revised the last paragraph at the last minute. (Whatever the paragraph originally was, it ended with the word "scar.")
