And you expected otherwise?

In other news, the local garden show has a very disappointing selection of new automobiles.

(And yes, I get that San Diego is The Big Event, and has been pretty much overwhelmed by movies, TV, and games in the last few years. But it's still a fucking comic convention. And, based on the news reports I've seen, there's been a ton of movie-related stuff, anyway.)

Ya know...

I really think Comic-Con needs to stop living in denial.

They really need to change their name to, "The International Trade Show of Comic, Science Fiction, and Fantasy Media"

Just be honest guys.. This thing ain't even a con anymore.

I'd still love to make the pilgrimage one day.

It's worth the experience. The con is my favorite con to hate for its chaos and explosive growth, but it really is something amazing to behold. Nothing like it.

Definitely felt not like a con to me. I was underwhelmed by the organization and overwhelmed by how huge it was. If it wasn't for the fact they screwed up getting me my press credentials and so I had no assistant I would still be there. The Expo floor at least had a huge amount of comic presence and I got to see Roman Dirge speak about Lenore and that was fun. But yeah, they really should change the name because the comics are definitely second (or even third) tier in terms of importance.

Next year I already know I have a press pass and so that's one big thing sorted out. Plus I got to network with some of the comic writers I wanted to network with. So me being sick and without an assistant and having to fly home two days early wasn't a total loss.

Not enough movies at Comic con? Go to Movie con then. Christ, it's not difficult. ZOMG, too many comics at a convention about comics!

The most ridiculous thing is the poster's mention that WB had brought nothing regarding I Am Legend or Dark Knight Returns. The poster must be blind. WB didn't have anything at the WB panel, but I Am Legend stuff has been present on other panels, and WB had been going absolutely bonkers with Dark Knight Returns viral marketing here.

Seriously. There was a fucking Joker-smile flash mob on Friday. An airplane trailing a mysterious phone number over San Diego. This stuff's been everywhere.

Actually he doesn't seem to be complaining about it. He actually feels happy about it by the end...

despite being a movie nerd, he's totally happy that COMIC Con, was still COMIC con and not HOLLYWOOD Takes Over San Diego.
