So, you're reading a fantasy novel, set in a world without our history or religions.

And there's a parsimonious, amoral banker/moneylender. Not an unusual character archetype, right?

And then that character is described as "hook-nosed."

Do you have a negative reaction to this?

If it's just mentioned in passing and not rubbed in at all, I think I probably don't notice, or if I do notice it, I think for a moment and probably continue reading. If there's any further description of the character as looking Semitic, I stop, give the book the hairy eyeball, and think *hard* about whether I want to keep reading it or whether I want to go find something that has actual worldbuilding etc instead of relying on anti-Semitic stereotypes. (The decision has gone both ways, depending on what I've thought of the rest of the book up to that point.)
