Robert Jordan died yesterday. Never read his works, but I was very impressed by him the one time I saw him speak (back at Dragoncon/NASFiC 1995).

Meanwhile, [livejournal.com profile] magenta_girl gave birth to her baby boy yesterday! Welcome to the world, and congrats to the parents!

If you were to start on the Wheel of Time series right now, there'd be some ten thousand pages of material with the series presently incomplete. Staggering.

I'm pondering whether to do so. I remember a college colleague back in the mid-90s talking about the series; he was impressed with how magic was explained in Jordan's world.

Sounds like Jordan was a good guy.

I'll acknowledge that he's overly verbose at times, but he's developed a nicely laid out universe. Worth the time.
