The Jewish Day of Atonement is Yom Kippur.

Yom Kipper is a holiday devoted to herring. Or should be, at least.

Srsly? Have you been seeing this around today?
I'm not Jewish, and I always forget when it is, but I know how to spell it.
Besides, there are already Polish holidays devoted to herring.

I see it and I hear it. Hearing people say Yom Kipper (should be pronounced Yom Kip-PUR) makes me want to put a spork in my eye.

Also not to be confused with the Southern Baptist Holiday celebrated by the South Texas Cheerleaders and their plastic-smile mamas.

Yom Chipper.

More holidays should involve herring.

I was going to say that "Yum Kipper" should be the holiday devoted to herring, but then I realize that I really can't agree that "yum" and "kipper" should be in the same phrase ...

not me ...

*wants*

(Actually, now I want to post about surströmming (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Surströmming), which pretty much is a holiday devoted to herring, at least the way we do it, which involves a lot of drinking akvavit and singing songs to the herring; but it's an anecdote, and it takes up far too much space for a comment...)

Also, it is inappropriate to wish someone a happy Yom Kippur.

It it not recommended to make this mistake with your fiance's Jewish nana.

[Also, it is apparently not appropriate to want to blow out the candles and clap when lighting the menorah.]

Sorry. I shouldn't laugh. It's just the way you phrased it. Or perhaps the migraine drugs are making me loopy.
