Doris Lessing just won the Nobel Prize in literature.

Wonder how long until the press starts trying to get her to deny having written genre lit (not that I think she'll give in)?

She couldn't deny it if she wanted to, she who was guest of honour at WorldCon in 1987. I guess they just won't mention it, y'know? Nobel Laureates get to keep their dirty little secrets...

Well, Yahoo! news story about it begins, Doris Lessing, author of dozens of works from short stories to science fiction,, so there's another plus. (Admittedly, we *are* talking about the geeky Intarwebs...)

Funny thing is that when I heard it on the radio I couldn't connect her name with a single book or story. She wrote nothing I read that was memorable enough for me to remember.

I don't even remember seeing her stuff on the shelves, not back when I managed a Books/Games/Comics store in the 80s or in recent years when visiting Pandemonium.

As far as I know she was primarily known for some feminist related literature.

Maybe it has to do where I went to school and when (High school in the 70s; Bentley & Boston College in the 80s)?
