According to Wikipedia, "You Give Love a Bad Name" was originally written for Loverboy.

Granted, Wikipedia is not exactly known for accuracy, but it's believable. Bon Jovi did write another Loverboy hit : "Notorious," featuring one of the greatest videos ever from the subgenre of "videos with women who lift up their skirts just because there is a helicopter pilot who probably wants a peek." And as that rare fan of both '80s bands, I'm not appalled at the idea. I am, however, unable to imagine Loverboy performing the song.

Somewhere out there, there's a music store equivalent of the video store Tim Pratt writes about in Impossible Dreams. And I'd love to buy some of the singles from there.

On the other hand, when I heard that Don't You Forget About Me (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Don%27t_You_%28Forget_About_Me%29) was originally written for Billy Idol, I had absolutely no difficulty at all hearing Billy singing it in my head.

Are there other videos in that subgenre?

Strangely, it reminded me of this story about the helicopter pilot trying to "communicate" with a sunbathing au-pair (http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/uk/article2690172.ece). Go figure.
