We've got three tweens here (actually, two tweens and one full-fledged teen), doing homework and griping about the fact that the manga is always better than the anime.

When I was their age, I didn't even know either of those words.

As our parents said about us.

As their parents said about them...

I don't actually think kids are so different these days.

Dude, all they said was that the book was better than the movie.

As long as things have been adapted into other things, people - especially teens and preteens - have been bitching about it.

See, that amusement isn't communicating. It's all, "OOOoooh, look at these words and concepts they know now! The young are so DIFFERENT and SPECIAL." Which I just don't believe. I mean, yes, young people are all unique snowflakes like the rest of us and they are awesome, but still. It's just formatting.

And I didn't know the words either.

I knew anime in the '80s (Akira, hello?), but not manga.

You didn't watch Star Blazers or Voltron either? Mighty Orbots on Saturday mornings? (technically not anime but close enough)

I read Starlog magazine in the late 70s so that must have been where I learned what anime was and why I loved Speed Racer & BotP so much. I wasn't able to fully indulge myself until I met my SO in '96. He had much better connections than I did and introduced me to the wonderful world of fansubs.

Really? I think I knew about homework and griping from a very early age...

Oh wait, those weren't the words you meant.

Nevermind. Ignore me. :)
